After-care

Please take care of yourself, it reflects in your tattoo! Here are some things that help you stay tip top for your appointment, please remember:

  • Moisturizing the skin once a day for a couple of weeks before your appointment will help the entire process move smoothly.

  • Taking over the counter pain medication is totally okay!

  • Numbing cream is a no-no unless speaking to the artist first. We sell topical numbing creams in-shop and artists may use topical sprays during the tattoo process.

  • Hydrate and get those electrolytes in! Your body needs it!

  • Please eat before your appointment, but never hesitate to bring snacks or drinks to your appointment. (Non-messy snacks preferred!)

  • Try not to drink alcohol at least 24 hours before your appointment.

  • Try to refrain from working out prior to your appointment. It can make your muscles sore and impact the quality of your tattoo.

Our artists use second-skin, specifically recovery-derm to heal tattoos. If you believe you may be allergic to adhesive bandages, please speak to an artist before your appointment so we can provide proper accommodations.

This wrap should stay on through showering, working out, working, or many other activities. Do not submerge the bandage in bodies of water.

The recommended time to keep the bandage on depends on the tattoo. Please talk to your artist.

Instructions for removing bandage:

  • When you are ready to remove your bandage, wash your hair and body. Give your bandage time to loosen from the steam.

  • Under the shower head, gently and slowly peel the bandage off against your skin, akin to a command strip. If you pull incorrectly, it will hurt more and can rip the top layer of skin.

  • Your tattoo will be covered in dry plasma and ink. Under the shower head, do your best to remove the dried plasma and ink from your skin. Do not use soap at this time.

  • Get out of the shower, wash your tattoo in the sink with antibacterial, non-scented soap. Whatever did not come off in the shower should come off now.

  • Pat dry with a clean paper towel, moisturize with a small amount of recommended moisturizer.

    • Lubriderm

  • Cocoa Butter

  • Cera Ve

  • Crybaby

  • Steele’s Salve

  • Other, non-petroleum based moisturizers

  • Do not use Tattoo Goo or Vaseline!

If you are concerned about the healing of your tattoo, please call or come back into the studio. If it is suspected that there is an allergic or adverse reaction, or that your tattoo is infected, it is recommended that you consult a health care practitioner immediately.
